Local families will once again be able to get assistance with their back-to-school clothes shopping through a program funded by the Logan County Department of Job and Family Services.
The local agency has enough money available to provide $200 each for up to 1,500 children that can be spent between Aug. 10 and 28 at the local JCPenney, Goody’s or Wal-Mart stores.
The School Clothing Voucher Program is eligible for families who are at or below twice the federal poverty level. The child must be between the ages of 5 and 18, reside in Logan County and be enrolled for the 2018-19 school year at a public or private school outside of the home.
Applications are now available at the agency’s 211 E. Columbus Ave. office and must be turned in by July 16.
Families do not need to be enrolled in other agency programming to receive the vouchers as was the case with many of the 1,275 vouchers awarded last year, Director Cynthia Heffner said in a news release.
“The purpose of this program is to assist families with the preparation for a new school year,” the director wrote. “A new school year can place financial stress on a household. This program is intended to allow families to obtain new clothing for their children while still maintaining their household budget.”
