Ruby F. Barthauer, 87, of DeGraff, passed away peacefully at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at her home. She was born on May 12, 1933, a daughter of the late John William and Dorothy Elizabeth (Boswell) Ceylor.
On Dec. 18, 1950, Ruby married Bob Lee Barthauer in DeGraff, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2010. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Minnie LaPorte; and three brothers, Alvy Ceylor, Paul Ceylor, and Doyle Ceylor.
Ruby is survived by her children, Mike (Joyce) Barthauer, Karen (Gary) Meyers, Rita (Steve) Strayer, Missy (Robb) Cummins, and Kevin (Deb) Barthauer; 11 grandchildren, Jennie (Bart) Rogers, Jeremy (Lynda) Barthauer, Amy (Chad) Newland, Kristy Evilsizor, Mindy (Carlos) Cioffi, Jeff Wren, Matthew (Kaitlin) Strayer, Michael (Rochelle) Strayer, Angie (Chris) Cummins-Boyd, Brad (Kelsey Lininger) Cummins, and Kevin Marvin Barthauer; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother, David Ceylor; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruby had the honor of being the first female auctioneer in the state of Ohio. For 30 years, she used that distinction, alongside her husband, as owners of Barthauer’s Auction Service.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff. In observance of COVID guidelines, all guests in attendance will be asked to be symptom free, wear masks, and practice social distancing.
