Robert Wayne Green, 64, of Bellefontaine and formerly of West Mansfield, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at his residence.
Born Dec. 18, 1952, in Mountain Home, Idaho, he was a son of the late Myron Deryl and Dorothy “Betty” Dunn Green.
A 1971 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam as a military policeman. While serving in Vietnam, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the M-16 Expert Badge and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Robert enjoyed following sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. His biggest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving is his son, Robert M. (Marla) Green of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Lane, Hayden, Gunnar and Gavin Green of Bellefontaine; his former wife, Jill Small Phillips; a sister, Gloria “Cookie” Ward of Bellefontaine; brothers, Jim (Linda) Green of Bellefontaine and Richard “Dick” Green of Zanesfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog Buddy.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield, prior to a memorial service at 6 p.m. officiated by Nathaniel King. Inurnment of his ashes is at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, at the Dayton National Cemetery where military rites will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Champaign County Animal Welfare League 3858 State Route 56, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044.
