Robert Eugene Gilroy, 93, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, in Tavernier Key, FL.
He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on January 19, 1929, the son of the late Dallas Lyman and Neva Coma (Elliott) Gilroy.
On September 15, 1947, he married Mary Alice (Bazin) Gilroy at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Russells Point and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Gilroy.
He is survived by four sons; Daniel (Heidi Esala) Gilroy of Big Pine Key, FL, James (Tina) Gilroy of Franklin, OH, William (Melanie) Gilroy of Bellefontaine, OH, and Donald Gilroy (Matt Bennett) of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren; Nicholas Gilroy, Zachary Gilroy, Charles (Stephanie) Bland, Breanna (Brady) Baier, Brooke (Zane) Marshall, Mike (Nickie) Kavanaugh, and Matt (Kaylee) Kavanaugh; 8 great grandchildren; his trusty dog Sam, a sister, JoAnn Stewart of Hilliard, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob began working at the age of 16 for the New York Central Railroad in Bellefontaine, OH, as a pipe fitter. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He was always very good with his hands whether it be woodworking, welding, or fabricating of any kind. After retirement, he loved to fish and was an avid rifleman.
Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a funeral service at noon on Wednesday, March 23, in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
