Riverside Elementary School sixth-grader Emma Blair won the school spelling bee Tuesday, Dec.6, by correctly spelling “adorable” in the 16th round.
The runner-up was fifth-grader Shailyn Giles. Twelve elementary students, in grades 3-6, competed in this year’s spelling bee.
The Riverside Junior High Spelling Bee took place Wednesday, Dec. 7. After 24 rounds of spelling, Clara McGill was named champion after successfully spelling the word “traditional.” Chance Magoto was the runner-up.
There were 11 participants in the junior high bee.
Each of these four students have qualified the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre, slated for 6 p.m. Jan. 17.
“We are very proud of them and we wish them the best of luck at the County Spelling Bee,” school officials said.
