The Ridgemont Board of Education voted at their recent meeting to enable the Ridgemont Public Library to place a 0.5 mill renewal levy for operating expenses on the Nov. 8 ballot.
Hardin County Auditor Mike Bacon was in attendance and shared that the 0.5 mill levy will generate $19,790 the first year of collection.
Also during the meeting, members approved an agreement accepting SHP’s recommendation of awarding a general contract to
Heiberger Paving Inc. as the lowest responsible bidder for the track replacement project.
The board authorized the superintendent and treasurer to execute an agreement with Heiberger Paving for the project in the amount of $518,695. The project is slated to begin around May 23.
In other buildings and grounds matters, the board reviewed the current plans for the preschool classrooms and playground at the Ridgeway building, noting that the rooms will have the same color scheme as the Mt. Victory building and a fenced playground area to the west of the building.
The Mt. Victory playground will also receive at least a new set of swings.
During the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Sally Henrick congratulated a number of recent athletic achievements and also FFA members on their recent success.
The FFA Chapter will be presenting at the April meeting to share their experiences.
Henrick also recognized Board Member Eric Hill, who has served for 15 years. He has been instrumental in leading the district through a building bond issue, building design, and a new building and educational advances.
“While this is all amazing for the district, our students know him for his countless hours spent in rehearsals and performances in the musicals for 15 years as he taught students to sing, act, and dance,” the superintendent said, noting the school district’s musical this past weekend.
Members also noted that kindergarten registration is May 5 and 6 at Ridgemont Elementary in Mt. Victory. Parents need to contact Cindy Brown, elementary school secretary, at 937-354-3141 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to set up an appointment. All children must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2022 to attend the screening.
In other action, the board:
• approved the purchase of a transportation van at a cost of $32,247.95 from White’s Ford of Urbana;
• accepted the retirement resignation of 30 year staff member Pam Robinson, sixth-grade math and science teacher;
• accepted the resignation of Megan Looney, CCP/high school English teacher, at the end of the 2021-22 contract year;
• approved Jace McGue as volunteer assistant baseball coach;
• a student was approved to join the Ridgemont group for the Spanish Club Europe Trip.;
• approved the 2022-23 Course Handbook and the resolution for the Third Grade English Language Arts Assessment paper format for the 2022-23 school year;
• approved the 2022-2023 school calendar and employee calendars; and
• accepted the College Credit Plus agreement with Rhodes State College for the 2022-23 school year; and
• thanked a number of donors for recent donations to the district and students.
The board also convened in a work session to discuss athletics and extracurricular activities, discussing the current status and five-year goals and budgets.
The next meeting is 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28.
