Art pupils honored at regional show
Ridgemont Board of Education members were updated at their Thursday evening meeting about upcoming plans to create a land lab behind the Mt. Victory school building, with the initial phase to include the installation of about 380 trees.
The land lab is made possible through an allocation from the Hazel G. Moore Estate Fund, which was created with the intention of supporting students at Ridgemont.
Students in agriculture business, agriculture science 1 and 2, and environmental science with the help of Stephanie Jolliff, Adam Baumgartner, Zach Balch, J. Mac Geissinger, and Partnerships Make a Difference representatives Kathy Meyer and Ellen Erlanger have collaborated to develop the plans for the outdoor space.
Being consistent with the principles of service learning, students have researched appropriate species of trees, fertilization, planting, lifespan and eco-systems in order to make decisions.
Members expressed their excitement about the opportunity to build a brand new outdoor educational environment for students both now and for generations to come.
