Richard W. Roby, 84, of DeGraff, passed away at 10:33 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born in DeGraff on May 16, 1936, the son of the late Wilbur Walter and Alice Mae (Huber) Roby.
On December 24, 1953, he married Shirley “Joanne” (Vaughn) Roby and she preceded him in death in 2010. He is also preceded in death by a son, James “Jim” Roby, and two brothers, Robert and Donald Roby.
He is survived by a son, Jeff (Lorna) Roby of DeGraff, four grandchildren, Jim (Amy) Roby of Anna, Michael (Crissy) Roby of Sidney, Luke (Kathy) Roby of Marysville, Morgan (Seth) Barnes of Indian Lake, nine great-grandchildren; Troy, Zeke, Isaac, Urban, Natalie, Mason, Laynie, Caden, and Kiera, his siblings; Constance J. “Connie” Swartz, Susan White, Jeanne C. Hill, Larry A. (Emma) Roby, a daughter-in-law, Debra Roby of Anna, a sister-in-law, Shirley Roby, and many nieces and nephews.
Richard worked as a machinist for many years including MidStates Packaging, D.A.B. in Bellefontaine, Monarch in Sidney, and after retiring from machinery work, he farmed for several years. He enjoyed John Deere tractors and gardening. He was an active member of the DeGraff Baptist Church and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Deacon Mike Idle will officiate a funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, in the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes St., DeGraff. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the DeGraff funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
