Richard Carl McGuire, 95 of Urbana, passed away, Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, in his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Kingscreek, a son of the late Nicholas Oliver and Ruth Bodey McGuire. He attended Salem School in Kingscreek and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He liked to collect arrowheads, guns, knives and stop at every garage sale he passed. Richard never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his son, Nicholas Dwain (Nancy) McGuire; his daughter, Shelia Dianne (Terry) Evilsizor; his daughters-in-law, Linda McGuire and Wilma Jean McGuire; his sister, Mary Catherine Tullis; sister-in-law, Joyce McGuire; grandchildren, Dawn (Kyle) Hodson, Debbie McGuire-Kauffman (John Lyons), Darcy (Tom) Olinger, David (Tami) McGuire II, Molly (Bob) McGuire-Thomas, Marc (Michelle) McGuire, Anicia (Rob) Smith, Michael (Tonya) McGuire, Peter (Melinda) McGuire, Nichole (John) Spencer, Christy (Josh) Astorino, Thomas (Kylie) McGuire, Mamie (Daryl) Hicks, Molly Jill McGuire and Matthew Hendershot; 29 great-grandchildren;12 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews of several generations.
He also was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, 7 months and 17 days, Florence E. Powell McGuire; his sons, David and Dwight McGuire; a great-great granddaughter, Shelby Underwood; and his siblings, John Nicholas McGuire, Donna Margaret Huffman and James Robert McGuire.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in the Vernon Funeral Home in Urbana, where calling is an hour prior to the service. Chaplain Janie Brewer officiates. Burial follows in Kingscreek Cemetery.
