BODDIE |
MUNDY |
Two repeat drug offenders were among those who appeared before visiting Logan County Common Pleas Judge Mark S. O’Connor on Monday.
Donte Boddie, 35, of Springfield, was sentenced to two years in prison for failure to appear, trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, while Christopher Mundy, 36, of Bellefontaine, received a one-year sentence for trafficking in drugs.
This is Mr. Boddie’s sixth felony conviction while Mr. Mundy has at least five convictions.
Both men argued that newer rehabilitation programs available to drug offenders are no longer available to them because of some of their long criminal histories.
“I’ve been to prison six times now,” Mr. Boddie said. “I’m not going to play the victim, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like I’m given the opportunity to help myself. I know it will be the same when I’m released from here. There are programs, but they don’t pertain to me because I am a sixth offender.”
Mr. Mundy made similar pleas to the longtime judge, who has presided over many of their past cases.
Judge O’Connor, however, told both men to begin seeking programming while incarcerated and noted that they may be eligible for judicial release or transitional control programs prior to serving their entire sentences.
