Benjamin Logan High School hosted a kickoff event Thursday for their 2022 Raiders Relay, which will be celebrated May 11.
This year marks the 19th year students at BLHS have participated in an event to help end cancer. Over the last 18 years, the Raiders have donated more than $375,000 through the middle school and high school combined.
“Last year’s high school total was $19,826. So far this year, we have collected $376.96 from the pie in the face contest,” student Hannah Phillips shared.
“The art department recently had their “Bowls with Purpose” art auction fundraiser that brought in over $1,000. The Improvising for a Cure also took place on April 21 at the high school commons. We need each of you to be a contributor and collect donations. Become a $100 donor, and be sure to purchase your T-shirt by Wednesday, April 27.”
All donations from this year’s high school Raiders Relay will be going to the Logan County Cancer Society. Every dollar raised will stay in Logan County to help those affected by cancer.
To help students understand how their donations make a difference in the community and to learn more about what the Logan County Cancer Society does, the Raiders invited Tammy Allison to speak at the kick-off.
A Class of 1982 Benjamin Logan graduate, Allison serves as the chief operating officer of the Logan County Cancer Society and Mary Rutan Foundation, and oversees Community Health and Outreach for Mary Rutan Hospital.
“The Logan County Cancer Society, Inc. is a local not-for-profit organization that has been serving the residents of Logan County for over 65 years… The mission of the organization is to provide financial assistance to Logan County residents who have cancer or a cancer related illness, while promoting education in the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.
“In 2021, 283 community members received assistance, totaling nearly $123,000. Over the past five years, assistance was provided to a total of 1,305 individuals totaling nearly $715,000.”
This year, the high school Raider Relay theme is the Olympics. To continue their tradition of helping to end cancer, the student body is working together to spread “Rings of Hope” to those impacted by the disease.
Students can purchase a ticket for $20, which covers the cost of a T-shirt and their admission to the Raider Relay. Ticket sales can be purchased online. Students can also sign up for tournaments in advance and they will be able to purchase food from the concession stand on the day of the event. The last day to purchase the T-shirt ticket is April 27 at https://blhsraiderrelay.itemorder.com/shop/sale/.
