Benjamin Logan’s girls and boys swim teams saw 11 girls and eight boys score points in individual events at the Lima Senior Invitational on Saturday.
The Raider girls beat Marion Elgin, Marion Harding, Whitmer and River Valley while falling to Lima Senior and Elida.

Carter Rees led Ben Logan’s boys with 40 points. He set a new school record with a time of 2:04.09 in the 200 freestyle. He was followed by Kelvin Ong with 28, Maz Leezer, Jacob McKenrick and Luke McKenrick with 23, Dylan Jordan with 20, Gabe Hemmelgarn with 15, Noland King with 14 and Sam Henderson and Robert Leezer with seven each.
The Raiders’ 400 freestyle relay team of Ong, Jacob McKenrick, Max Leezer and Rees set a school record with a third-place finish in 4:00.22. Those four swimmers also finished third in the 200 freestyle relay.
For Ben Logan’s girls team, Annika Simovart led the way with 37 points. Gabrielle Schmidt was close behind with 32 points. Allison Moore and Aliya Pelger each had 24, Corinne Herring had 22, Brooklyn Horner tallied 13, Liberty Hays had 13, Grace Grant tallied 12, Maria Henderson had nine and Kaitlyn McMurrough added six.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Schmidt, Pelger, Liberty Hays and Simovart took second, the 400 freestyle relay team of Sammie Lee, Henderson, Horner and Herring was fourth and the 200 medley relay team of Simovart, Schmidt, Pelger and Herring also placed fourth.
Lady Chiefs take second at Shawnee Invite
Bellefontaine’s girls swim team placed second at the Springfield Shawnee Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Chiefs finished just 12 points behind champion Kenton Ridge.
Abby Kite paced Bellefontaine with 32 points. She won the 100 butterfly and finished seventh in the 100 freestyle.
The Chiefs’ Sarah Starkey accumulated 31 points, finishing third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Also for BHS, Sarah Fulmer took fourth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 backstroke and Morgan Henry was fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 200 individual medley.
Chloe Reynolds had 23 points, Samantha Starkey tallied 18 points, Maddi Jackson had 12 points, Joslyn Robinson had 12 points, Olivia Ullom tallied nine points and Vivian Eader chipped in five points.
“I was really proud of our girls for their effort today,” said BHS coach Sharon Lewis. “I had a lot of swimmers in events outside of their usual as a challenge and didn’t expect us to finish quite as well as we did. I think this shows a lot of potential and should help to motivate us at upcoming meets. Kenton Ridge has a strong team and we will face them several more times leading into CBC.”
Bellefontaine’s boys team finished fourth out of 18 teams. Eight Chieftains scored points.
Jared Salyer led the Chiefs with 26 points, finishing fifth in the 50 freestyle and seventh in the 100 freestyle. Preston Henry had 22 points, finishing 11th in 200 individual medley and third in the 100 breaststroke and Aidan Mifsud had 18 points, finishing fourth in the 500 freestyle and 14th in 200 freestyle.
Rounding out the scoring for the BHS boys were Lucas Harrington with 10 1/2 points, Quinton Bible with 10 points, Jason Miller with six points, Brandon Gamble with five points and Blake McDonald with one point.
Lakers finish sixth, seventh at Shawnee meet
Indian Lake’s boys swim team finished sixth out of 18 teams and the Laker girls took seventh among 16 squads during the Springfield Shawnee Invitational on Saturday.
Ryan Braig led the IL boys with a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle and a fourth-place effort in the 50 freestyle.
Caden Paavola was seventh in the 200 freestyle and 15th in the 100 freestyle and Brant Parsell finished 13th in the 100 backstroke.
The Lakers’ relay team of Paavola, Reid Vance, Lane McPherson and Braig was third in the 200 freestyle and fifth in the 400 freestyle.
The group of Ethan Pequignot, Parsell, Jacob Huhn and Dustin Franks took 12th in the 200 medley relay and Parsell, Pequignot, Mason Beres and Franks finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay.
For the Indian Lake girls team, Kassidy Crockett was sixth in the 200 freestyle and 10th in the 100 freestyle, Ashlyn Shaner was 10th in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle, Liza Shutway finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke and 16th in the 50 freestyle, Ella Wagner placed 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 12th in the 100 freestyle and Macie Robinson was 13th in the 100 backstroke.
The Lakers’ relay team of Kassidy Crockett, Wagner, Shutway and Shaner was fourth in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 400 freestyle.
The group of Paige Mefford, Chelsea LaRiva, Grace Pequignot and Robinson took 14th in the 200 freestyle relay.
