A Class of 2020 Benjamin Logan High School graduate receives his diploma Saturday from school officials during the BLHS outdoor drive-up graduation ceremony in the high school parking lot. The commencement service was the 50th annual graduation for the school. Valedictorian Ryann Beaschler and salutatorian Mailiis Simovart addressed their classmates. Rounding out the top 10 students for the Class of 2020 are: Mason Hammer, Anna Blake, Summer Dow, Gabrielle Schmidt, Joseph Gulick, Emma Wenger, Chloe Simmons and Tomas Kennedy. Principal Mark Butler also addressed the graduates, challenging them to think about, “What’s Your Why.” Referencing author Simon Sinek, Butler stated that any individual can explain what they do or how they do it, but they are often challenged to explain “why” they do it.. Reflecting over the course of the school year, Butler said the classmates have inspired him in accomplishing his “why” during this year. “You have faced tragedy, to which you responded by lifting each other up. You worked side-by-side to beautify the villages within our community. You donated blood so lives could be saved. You assisted with backpack meals so that little ones had food for the weekend. You participated in Relay for Life so that research for cancer can continue You enrolled in internships to gain first-hand experience in your field of passion. You enrolled in AP or CCP courses to not only challenge yourselves, but to jump start your future. You have persevered in remote learning during a global pandemic.”
