Quincy Village Council members approved at a recent meeting the third and final reading of an ordinance to increase the water rate from $20.50 per month to $25.50 per month.
The increase will go into effect Dec. 1, with the first bill reflecting the increase starting with the January 2017 billing. The new total of the water and sewer billing will be $75 per month, officials report.
Prior to the vote, the council heard from a representative of the Church of Christ and Christian Union regarding the proposed water rate increase, noting concerns that the increase applies to everyone, regardless of whether the entity is a small or large consumer of village water.
