Derrick Purtee has spent his entire educational career in the Riverside school system. But with an opportunity to advance in his profession elsewhere, he has decided to leave.
Purtee, a Riverside graduate who went on to teach and coach baseball for the Pirates, has accepted a position as an assistant middle/high school principal at Marion Elgin.
“It was a really difficult decision,” said Purtee. “This is where I grew up. My parents and grandparents went to school here, so it is not easy to leave.
“My long-term goal has been to be a principal, and I feel like this is the best fit to continue that path. The Riverside administration has been very supportive and knew this has been a goal of mine.”
