A Lakeview woman admitted a theft charge and repaid more than $30,000 for years of thefts from a local doctor’s office where she worked.
Nanette Pummell, 60, entered a no contest plea and was found guilty of a misdemeanor count of theft Monday in Logan County Common Pleas Court.
While working as an office administrator for Costin Family Practice from 2010 through March 2015, Ms. Pummell would write checks from the business account to pay her family’s expenses and then enter the checks into the computer accounting software under legitimate vendor names to avoid detection, Assistant Logan County Prosecutor Sarah Warren said.
She also abused the business’ petty cash fund and mileage reimbursement system for personal gain, Ms. Warren said.
The thefts came to light after the defendant was terminated for padding her hours and a new office manager began comparing images of the physical checks to the computerized ledger entries.
The charge was reduced from a felony theft to a misdemeanor after Ms. Pummell used an early payment from her retirement fund to repay $30,348 to the business.
She faces up to six months’ local jail time when she is sentenced Oct. 17.
