Officers are investigating a 1:45 a.m. incident Monday in which a named male suspect and female suspect shot a paintball gun from a car striking a 14-year-old girl on her right knee.
Deanna White of Bellefontaine told officers she was sitting in her disabled car while her daughter, Kayla Henderson, was standing by it when a car came drove by. The occupants fired multiple times striking White’s car and Kayla.
Motorist faces OVI
Douglas N. Scroggs, 38, of 148 W. Columbus Ave., was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs following a 4:20 a.m. crash on Ludlow Road.
He also was issued a traffic citation for failure to control.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Departmetn report he was operating a sport utility vehicle on Washington Avenue and drove off the east side of Ludlow into a utility pole . He was found sitting on the ground near the crashed vehicle.
Officers noted an odor of alcohol while talking with him and began field sobriety tests. The first test indicated he was impaired by alcohol and officers noticed he was swaying as he stood.
He declined to continue all tests and was taken into custody. He was issued his charges and released to a sober person.
Damage to the SUV was heavy.
Couple charged over threats
Donnie R. Stewart, 37, and Sara J. Stewart, 34, both of 517 Cooper Ave., each was charged after they threatened to harm Alex Bush of Bellefontaine around 7 p.m. June 24.
Officers spoke with the suspects, the victim and multiple witnesses before charging the husband with aggravated menacing and the wife with menacing.
He allegedly threatened to decapitate the victim while armed with a large knife and she threatened to hit him with a board. They claim Bush was driving too fast and nearly hit their children who were playing basketball in the street. They confronted him when he stopped at a neighbor’s residence.
Bush told officers he was traveling at or near the 25 mph speed limit.
• Ibtisam H. Knupp, 49, of 547 E. Columbus Ave., Apt. 20, was charged Monday evening with aggravated menacing. She allegedly threatened to kill a neighbor with a knife.
Officers were called to complex around 8:55 p.m., found her intoxicated and arrested her.
• Justin E. White, 30, of 323 Plumvalley St., was charged Sunday with assault. He allegedly spat in a neighbor’s face during a verbal confrontation around 5 p.m.
