Lehman Catholic relied on a strong first half to upend visiting Riverside 54-48 on Friday in a Northwest Central Conference boys basketball game.
The Pirates fall to 2-9 overall on the season and remain winless in the NWCC at 0-3. The Cavaliers move to 3-6, 2-1.
“We just got off to a bad start,” said Riverside head coach Seth Bodenmiller. “We gave up 20 points in the first quarter and then were down 17 at the half. We knew at halftime that we were going to have to try to get the lead down to eight by the start of the fourth quarter to have a chance in the end.
“We had a really good third quarter and we were able to come within nine points. In the fourth quarter, we were still able to get closer, but the first half proved to be too big of a hole to come out of. Give credit to Lehman, they knocked down some big three-pointers and they were able to hit free throws down the stretch.”
