Grove City driver Chad Pendleton finished out front to win the Neal Sceva Memorial on Saturday at Shady Bowl Speedway.
The race honored long-time driver Sceva, who posted over 600 career feature wins at tracks around the midwest.
This year, the Sceva Memorial was raced by the Adams Automotive street stocks. The 51-lap feature saw 22 cars take the green flag.
Jason Parsons took advantage of his front row starting spot and led until lap 18. Josh Sage of Piqua then took over. Sage eventually ran into some car trouble, though, and Pendleton took advantage. He grabbed the lead on lap 37 and never looked back to pick up the $1,551 first-place prize. Sage was second, followed by Rodney Roush, Chad Small II and Rob Schaeff. Roush won the dash, with Schaeff and Jamie Sites winning heat races.
The Dave Nagel Excavating late models were next. Thirteen cars started the 35-lap feature, with Mike Meeker Jr. taking the lead at the drop of the green flag. He led three laps and Scott Drake then took a short lap out front before spinning.
Former track champion Matt Parsons took the lead on the restart and looked to be in control. But fast qualifier Don Mahaffey Jr. made a charge to the front and took the lead on lap 20. Mahaffey was able to hold on down the stretch to get the win. Josh Smith took second, Parsons was third, Ryan Fleming fourth and Buddy Townsend fifth. Matt Parsons won the dash and Tyler Parsons won the heat race.
In the feature for the National Compact Touring Series, Ben Watson won the 15-lapper. Derek Robinson, Justin Stanley, Dusty Harding and Ron Lockman filled out the rest of the top five. Chris Harman set the fast time.
The Harrod Septic Solutions Compacts were next on the track. Jimmy McElfresh led the first two laps, before Bobby Terry found his way to the front. Terry held the lead until lap sixteen when Piqua driver Mike Wintrow grabbed the top spot. Wintrow went on to get the win. Terry, Jordon Sage, Nicholas Meade and Bill Ramey rounded out the top five. Meade was the fast qualifier, Wintrow was the dash winner and Chase Lang and Michael Litchfield won last-chance races.
The Noble Armor Coating Crown Vic feature was next, and it got off to a rough start.
Tyler Brandyberry was leading on lap three when a crash took place on the back straight. Brook Wilcoxon spun off the track midway down the back straight and she slid across the dew covered grass and into the creek that runs through the infield.
When the car slid into the creek it overturned, leaving it upside down in the creek. The track safety crew quickly converged and helped Wilcoxon get out of the car with no injuries.
Racing resumed with Brandyberry out front. He held the lead until lap 11 when Nick Barrett jumped ahead. Barrett led the final eight laps to notch the win. The win marked a win in three different divisions for the Kettering resident. Brandyberry was second, fast qualifier Jimmy McElfresh was third, Alex Zerkle was fourth and Curtis Noble took fifth. Zerkle won the dash and Chris Prater and Ken Rosebrook won heat races.
The Harrod Septic Solutions Powder Puff Compacts finished out the night’s action. Samantha Edwards led the first lap of the 15-lap feature before Columbus driver Destyni Lucas took the lead and did not give it up as she put her car in victory lane.
Holli Eaton. Bobbie Jo Parsons, Aliza Houser and Andrea Swink rounded out the top five. Eaton was the fast qualifier.
This Saturday’s race program will be “Kids Night” and features the Dave Nagel Excavating late models, the Wooten Automotive and Towing modifieds, the Adams Automotive street stocks, the Bullet Liners of Dayton Thunder Cars, the Noble Armor Coating Crown Vics and Harrod Septic Solutions compacts.
