Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report a front seat passenger was claimed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of state routes 235 and 47.
Mary Velazco, age and address currently unavailable, was entrapped in a sport utility vehicle in the 4:43 p.m. crash. She was removed by non-mechanical means, and then live saving measures were started, deputies report.
She was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m.
Deputies report she was a passenger in the westbound SUV operated by Laura Velazco, 34, of Sidney. The driver reportedly pulled from the stop sign into the path of a southbound pickup operated by Jeff Watkins, 53, of Sidney, that was pulling a trailer loaded with an asphalt sealing machine.
The SUV was struck by the pickup on the passenger side front door. Both vehicles then came to rest in the grass off the southwest corner of the intersection, where they also took out a stop sign.
A rear passenger in the SUV, Jason Arnett, 42, of Sidney, was transported by Rosewood squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of injuries. Watkins was treated at the scene by Miami Township EMS personnel.
Squad members driving Integrity Squad were traveling through the area at the time of the crash and also stopped to provide medical assistance, deputies noted.
Deputies continued to investigate, and said seat belt usage by occupants is unknown at this time.
Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to place a temporary stop sign and DeGraff Fire Department personnel provided traffic control at the scene.
Wren’s Towing towed both vehicles, trailer and asphalt machine.
