If paperwork can be shuffled fast enough, Bellefontaine Joint Parks and Recreation District Superintendent Kris Myers told the board Tuesday, he would like to have an improvement project at Mary Rutan Park finished by May.
The parks district is currently waiting for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to approve a plan submitted as part of an Ohio Nature Works grant previously approved by the state agency.
“I would love to have the work done by the time the shelter season starts May 1,” Mr. Myers said after the monthly meeting. “But the plan submission has put it on hold for now.”
The city parks were awarded a $50,000 grant, which will be matched by $5,000 from the Lake Township Trustees and $12,000 from the city. The $67,000 project includes new roofs at three shelter houses on the north side of the park, resurfacing parking areas and replacing aging playground equipment.
Work can proceed on weekdays during the summer months, he noted.
