Michele L. Lundy, 51, of Piqua, and Rebecca J. Watson, 52, of 615 Chestnut Ave., Sidney, each were charged with possession of drugs related to a traffic stop about 1 p.m. Monday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in the area of State Route 274 near County Road 53 observed a speed violation with a vehicle and initiated the stop.
Lundy was identified as the driver and Watson was the front seat passenger. Deputies also identified two other passengers in the vehicle.
Deputies said K9 Thor was deployed for a free air exterior sniff of the vehicle after the occupants were removed. K9 Thor alerted on the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted.
Inside the vehicle, deputies located a purse that belonged to Lundy that contained a glass pipe with a crystal-like residue. A container with suspected methamphetamine and a single bud of marijuana also was located between the passenger seat and the center console.
Deputies said Lundy and Watson denied that the items belonged to them, although the items were within arm’s reach of the defendants.
They each were placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and officers of the Washington Township Police Department also assisted at the scene.
Driver charged with OVI
James D. Brooks, 30, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 117 near County Road 36 observed a vehicle with only one functional headlight and one working brake light. A traffic stop was initiated at Lima and Napolean streets in Huntsville.
Deputies said Brooks was moving furtively inside the vehicle and they observed suspected marijuana “shake” on his shirt, along with a powerful odor of body spray and an underlying odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle.
Deputies observed a can of body spray on Brooks’ lap. He told deputies he was smoking approximately five minutes prior to being pulled over while he was driving.
Brooks produced the glass smoking device he was using and said he had smoked the only marijuana in the vehicle. Deputies also conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, with no other significant findings.
Brooks submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for OVI. He was transported to the jail, where he provided a urine sample to be tested.
The defendant was issued a citation for the one headlight and was released to a sober driver.
