Josh R. McMasters, 42, and Danielle N. Bailey, 36, both of Sidney, each are facing felony counts of burglary as a result of an incident Thursday evening at a residence in the 11500 block of Chickasaw Path, Lakeview.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area about 8 p.m. regarding a burglary in progress as reported a by male and female pair at the home.
The two suspects had left the residence on foot prior to deputies’ arrival and were reportedly traveling on Chickasaw Path toward State Route 235.
The female resident told deputies that when she arrived home at her apartment that evening, she observed the front window was open that previously had been closed.
When she entered the apartment, she reportedly observed that McMasters was holding a machete and he then fled out the back door. Bailey also was inside the residence as well.
The resident told deputies she was familiar with McMasters and Bailey, as she had allowed them to come inside the home the previous evening to shower and for a meal. She said she then took them to a nearby gas station and dropped them off there. The woman also stated that some of her mother’s jewelry was missing from the home.
While deputies were on the scene, they said Bailey approached the area and she was wearing a pair of the female victim’s shoes, stating that hers “were muddy.” When deputies handcuffed her, they also asked her about a ring she was wearing, which also belonged to the victim.
McMasters was located by deputies in the 11500 block of Kickapoo Path and he was ordered to the ground at gunpoint. Two folding knives were located in his front pocket.
Deputies placed both defendants under arrest and transported them to the Logan County Jail. During separate interviews with deputies, both McMasters and Bailey said they thought it was OK to return to the home because the residents had offered to let them stay at the shed behind the apartment.
A report also has been forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office regarding additional charges, including aggravated menacing for McMasters and theft for Bailey.
