A husband and wife pair who are suspected in 13 separate burglaries that occurred in Logan, Shelby and Auglaize counties this year were arrested Thursday in Shelby County after forcing entry into a residence there.
Deputies of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office report Benjamin G. Rains, 31, and Mackenzie Counts Rains, 24, each have been charged with a second-degree felony count of burglary and were lodged in the Shelby County Jail, Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart said in a press release.
Thursday, Shelby County deputies responded to a Shelby County residence that had been entered, and located the suspects. Jewelry taken from the residence was found in their possession just minutes after they allegedly committed the burglary.
Detectives from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office assisted Shelby County detectives in the investigation, which led to the 13 burglaries being solved that occurred in the three different counties.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Rains were currently out on bond after being indicted for multiple burglaries and breaking and entering offenses that occurred from April through July in Logana and Auglaize counties.
Additional charges are pending upon further review by the Shelby County Prosecutor.
