UPDATE — Electrical power was restored by 11:40 a.m. today for all Dayton Power & Light Co. customers, the company reports.
(Previous report)
A power outage late afternoon Thursday left 177 Rushsylvania-area Dayton Power & Light Co. customers without power at presstime.
DP&L crews were in the community today assessing the damage and working to determine if a power pole needs replacement.
Company spokeswoman Mary Ann Kabel was not able to provide additional information such as when power may be restored.
Helen Norris, director of the Logan County Emergency Management Agency, said this morning county officials are monitoring the situation, but they did not believe the situation warranted opening an emergency shelter.
“We were fortunate that the temperatures were not extremely bitter,” she said. “If we did have extreme temperature in the single digits, we would have opened a shelter. With the temperatures being stable, unless it’s really severe, people don’t like to leave their homes if they don’t have to.”
She said Logan County Sheriff’s dispatchers fielded calls from a few individuals with medical devices or other needs that required electricity. Such situations are handled on a case-by-case basis.
As many as 760 customers were initially affected, Ms. Norris said.
