Dr. Brad Lander, a psychologist and clinical director of addiction medicine at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, will present “Understanding Addiction: Squirrel Logic” during an event hosted by the Community Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts.
The session, which is approved for 2.5 hours of counselor and social worker continuing education credit, is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Crossroad Business Center, 21 Hunter Place, and precedes an evening CORE dinner in which Dr. Lander will also speak on addiction issues.
The workshop describes how using a mood-altering drug over time creates fundamental changes to the brain that lead to compulsive and self-destructive behavior, and looks at the addict’s thinking and behavior with special emphasis on opiate use.
