Opal Lee Collinsworth Horner, 94, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday morning, April 27, 2020, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born in Tazewell, Tenn., Jan. 12, 1926, to the late Abe and Maggie (Rice) Collinsworth. Opal was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and George Collinsworth; and three sisters, Jeanette Calicoat, Stacia Eichelberger, and Ruby Lovelace.
Opal worked in the healthcare field as a nurse and physical therapy assistant. She had previously attended Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Bellefontaine. Opal loved to read her Bible, making it a daily task. She enjoyed quilting, mushroom hunting, baking pies, and watching her flowers and hummingbirds. Opal was a simple, country woman — born on a mountain top in Tennessee.
Opal is survived by her children, Sue Maddox of Jackson Center, Kay Pond of Huntsville, Charles Junior Horner of Springfield, and Connie Petty Chumley of New Tazewell, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a brother Paul (Von) Collinsworth of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeff LeMaster officiates Opal’s funeral service on Friday, May 1, 2020, at noon at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where visitation will be conducted two hours prior to the funeral. The family asks that all that attend wear casual attire.
