Omer “Joe” Korte, 89, of Urbana, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
Joe was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Dayton, the son of the late Omer L. and Gertrude Dillhoff Korte.
He married Elinor Siegel on Aug. 31, 1948, and she preceded him in death Sept. 20, 2017. Together they raised five children, Pamela (Terry) Hamisch of New Carlisle, Gary (Joanne) Korte of Bradford, Kimberly (Wayne) Hess of St. Paris, Joseph (Jenny) Korte of Urbana and David Korte, deceased.
He loved 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Joe worked at Wright Patterson Air Force base for 30 years and then he began farming. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Paris.
Joe enjoyed square dancing, farming, computer programming, golfing, euchre and bridge, traveling and spending time with Elinor at Indian Lake and in Florida. He also enjoyed restoring and remodeling older homes.
A funeral mass is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Paris, with Father Matt Lee officiating. Burial follows in Spring Grove Cemetery, north Heck Hill Road, St. Paris.
