Olive “Peg” Nelson diedWednesday, June 20, 2018. Her strength and humor will be missed.
She was born Olive Jackson on May 19, 1920, at Grays, Essex, England. Women still wore corsets then and there were gaslights in her home.
During World War II she served in Britain’s Land Army, married an American soldier, and bore her first child at home during an air raid. Her opinion on war was “Everybody says ‘war, war!’ until the bombs are whizzing down on you.” In Bellefontaine she was a member of the War Bride’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Newman Jackson and Ernest Thomas Jackson; siblings Robert, Doug, Eve, Ernest, Edward and Dell; husband, Jack Nelson; and son, Paul Nelson.
She is survived by son, Ed (Carol); daughter, Janet (ex, John) Rupert; grandchildren, Tony, Karen, Mike, Ben and Eric; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitationis from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery at a later date.
