A Kentucky man was arrested after he overdosed at a city motel and was revived Friday, Oct. 28.
George M. West, 43, was charged with felony counts of possession of drugs, obstructing official business and escape. He also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to Super 8 Motel, 1117 N. Main St., at 1:05 a.m. They responded to Room 209 and found West barely breathing. Narcan was administered by officers but West stopped breathing and officers could not detect a pulse.
Chest compression restarted his pulse and he soon was breathing on his own. Medics with the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department arrived on scene.
He initially did not want to go to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation. An officer convinced him it would be best.
At the hospital, he was advised he was under arrest and to cooperate with medical staff.
He did not and walked out of the facility after receiving initial treatment.
He was located in a car at Waffle House, 1133 N. Main St. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Officers had found methamphetamine on the suspect when he was in the motel room.
A woman, who was with him at the motel and drove him from the hospital to the restaurant, was not charged.
Officers noted in the arrest report West has prior convictions for possession of drugs.
Bicyclist lodged in jail
David J. Williams, 43, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 6, was charged Wednesday, Oct. 26, with obstructing official business and served a warrant for contempt of court.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department attempted to stop Williams while he was riding a bicycle without proper lights at 8:10 p.m. on Walnut Street near Brown Avenue.
The officer attempted to stop Williams as he approached his residence but the suspect quickly dumped his bicycle and ran into his apartment.
Other officers were called to the scene. Williams soon emerged from his apartment and was taken into custody.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Williams has a lengthy criminal record including trafficking in drugs, abduction, domestic violence and possession of drugs.
He was out on bond after a grand jury handed up an indictment this month charging him with felony counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, assault and intimidation and two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.
Resident falls victim to scam
A 78-year-old Bellefontaine woman fell victim to a scam Thursday, Oct. 27, officers report.
She received a phone call from a man claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House. He told she had won $2.5 million and a new pickup truck but she would need to pay the taxes up front.
She followed his instructions to load a gift card with $500 and then provided him with the card information.
Officers told her anonymous, unsolicited callers asking for payment via a gift card are running a scam.
