The Ohio Department of Health began Wednesday providing weekly updates regarding the number of COVID-19 cases at each of the Ohio long-term care facilities.
According to the data available at www.coronavirus.ohio.gov dashboard, there are currently no Logan County long-term care facilities reporting coronavirus cases. The site will be updated weekly at 2 p.m. Wednesdays with these figures.
The Logan County Health District reported via social media Tuesday that there have been a total of 11 cases of COVID-19 for all of Logan County, and that figure includes three individuals who have recovered.
Health district officials said for many years, all long-term care facilities have used procedures like quarantine and isolation practices to keep their residents and staff safe from passing other types of infectious illnesses. Some examples of other illnesses include influenza and diarrheal illnesses such as norovirus.
“They are good and experienced at what they do in keeping everyone safe,” LCHD officials said. “Long-term care facilities are an important part of Logan County’s health care community and they all need our support.”
For long-term care facilities in the state where COVID-19 cases are being reported, health officials encouraged an attitude of understanding.
“Please realize that this does not mean that these facilities are doing anything wrong. This disease is especially difficult to prevent from spreading in group living.”
Once visitors are allowed back into long-term care facilities, they must wear a face cover, and cloth face covers will be acceptable for visitors. Healthcare workers need masks on at all times. Surgical (ear loop or tie on) masks are fine. N-95 should only be worn in rooms where residents are ill.
The LCHD’s website at www.loganhealth.org provides a link for a cloth mask pattern for adults. Wearing of face coverings while out in public will be encouraged for the upcoming months.
“Our community has had many challenges over the last two months. We have been in this together and this teamwork has worked well,” health district officials said.
