Kindness, generosity and heartfelt service to the community run in the neighborhood when it comes to awards presented Tuesday at the annual Logan County Senior Day to neighbors who live just two houses apart on Logan Road near Bellefontaine.
These neighborhood friends, Ed and Jewell Berry and Mary Johnson, were named the recipients of the annual Outstanding Senior Citizen Award during the event at the Bellefontaine Regional Airport, 3100 State Route 47, presented by the Logan County Council on Aging in recognition of their volunteer work.
“We had so many deserving recipients this year, and from the nominations, we ended up with a tie between Mr. and Mrs. Berry and Mary Johnson for the award,” said Kathryn Sherer, chair of the Council on Aging and director of The Homestead at Logan Acres.
“This is my ‘wow’ moment; I can’t believe it,” Ms. Johnson said of the accolade while chatting amongst friends at the luncheon.
“We feel so blessed to still be so involved in our community,” said Mrs. Berry, 71, said while she and her husband, age 75, accepted their award. They were nominated by Logan Acres employee Kim Eagy for their many hours spent assisting others at the facility.
