David J. Williams, 41 of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 6., Bellefontaine, was charged with assault related to an incident in the city Saturday evening that sent a 53-year-old woman to Mary Rutan Hospital by Bellefontaine EMS for treatment of a laceration to her forehead.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 11:30 p.m. to a Pratt Street residence in Bellefontaine on a report of a woman stating that Williams had injured her and she was bleeding.
When deputies arrived, they said the victim had a laceration in the middle of her forehead and that her face also was covered in blood.
The woman stated she had been on her back porch when her neighbor, Williams, had approached her and the pair engaged in a verbal argument. She said the defendant then threw an item at her face and she fell to the ground. At the scene, deputies recovered several coffee cups and a broken glass cup on the ground near the porch area.
Deputies located Williams on the front porch of his residence. He told deputies that during an argument, he threw a cell phone at his neighbor. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Upon arrival at the jail, Williams reportedly was agitated and stated that he wanted to file charges against his neighbor, stating that she had instigated the incident by throwing a can of beer at him. A report has been forwarded to the Bellefontaine Municipal Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges against her.
Woman lodged for criminal trespass
Allison L. Defibaugh, 27, of 2392 County Road 13, Bellefontaine, was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct related to an incident early Saturday morning in Russells Point.
Deputies were dispatched about 4:50 a.m. to 509 Lincoln Blvd. on a report of an unknown woman who had made entry into the residence and locked herself in a bedroom.
Upon arrival, deputies met with the resident, who stated he heard someone knocking on his door and when he answered it, he found a woman who was unfamiliar to him who passed by him and entered the residence. He told her she was not welcome there, but she reportedly went to his bedroom and shut the door. The resident said he did not wish to harm her, so he contacted law enforcement.
The bedroom door was locked, and the resident gave deputies permission to force entry into the bedroom, where Defibaugh was located. She told deputies she thought she was “in Bellefontaine” and told them she last remembered being at The Beer Vault. Deputies observed an odor of alcoholic beverage on her person. She was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
OVI arrest follows Lakeview crash
Matthew T. Slotten, 49, of 435 S. Main St., Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a non-injury crash Thursday evening.
Deputies report Slotten was operating a southbound 2007 Hyundai Elantra on south Main Street near Market Street about 9:10 p.m. He reportedly struck an unoccupied 2015 Jeep Patriot owned by Ivan Engler of Lakeview that was parked along south Main Street. The impact sent the jeep into a third vehicle, a 2002 Buick Rendezvous owned by Nicole Engler.
Damage was heavy to the Slotten vehicle and the jeep and light to the Engler car.
While at the scene, deputies said Slotten told them that another vehicle had “cut him off” in traffic, which spun his vehicle around. Deputies observed that he displayed signs of impairment and he told them he had consumed four to five beers that evening.
He submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.197 blood alcohol content. He also was cited for failure to control and was released to a sober driver.
Pickup hauling camper crashes on U.S. 33
Richard W. Sholty, 78, of Kokomo, Ind., was cited for failure to control related to a non-injury crash Sunday on U.S. Route 33.
Deputies report he was operating an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado hauling a camper near County Road 270 about 4:50 p.m. He reportedly swerved to miss a vehicle heading westbound in the eastbound lane and then went off the right side of the road and then returned to the roadway. However, the camper tipped over and unattached from the pickup.
The pickup spun around and was struck by the camper on the passenger side. The camper slid and came to a rest in the westbound lane of U.S. 33, and traffic in the area was delayed for several hours.
The pickup sustained moderate damage. Sholty and his passenger were wearing their seat belts.
