Bradley D. Kiser, 56, of 3360 County Road 55, Apt. 10, was charged Tuesday with OVI and cited for a marked lanes violation and three driving under suspension violations.
At 11:10 p.m., Heartland of Bellefontaine employees reported Kiser had picked up his mother at the 221 School St. facility. They detected an odor of alcohol as they dealt with the motorist.
He drove eastward on Sandusky Avenue. At Garfield Avenue, an officer on patrol caught up and followed Kiser. The officer observed Kiser’s car weaving in the lane and cross the center line as it moved to turn south on Park Street.
A stop was initiated in the 500 block of east Columbus Avenue. Upon contact, the officer detected an odor alcohol. He admitted to drinking nine cans of beer that afternoon and evening. The officer noted the motorist staggered as he walked and exhibited problems maintaining his balance.
Kiser refused sobriety tests. Officers noted he has nine prior OVI convictions dating back to 1980.
He was lodged in jail.
• Joshua K. Wintersteller, 27, of West Mansfield, was charged Saturday with OVI and cited with a marked lanes violation after a 1:10 a.m. traffic stop.
He was observed in a northbound pickup truck straddling the hash marks separating the two lanes in the 500 block of south Main Street.
Upon on contact with the driver, an officer detected an odor of alcohol and noted his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
Wintersteller denied drinking alcohol and refused to take sobriety tests.
He was released to a sober friend.
Officers found multiple containers of beer in the pickup’s cab, some cold to the touch and open while others were unopened and warm.
