Courtney D. Kennedy, 30, of Toomsbua, Miss., was charged Wednesday with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and carrying concealed weapons after a 5:35 p.m. traffic stop.
He was stopped for a turn signal violation and officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department detected an odor of marijuana. A loaded 9mm handgun was found inside the car during a probable cause search along with a digital scale and marijuana paraphernalia.
Kennedy admitted the gun was his. He was lodged in jail.
Drivers charged with OVI
Richard T. Shoffner, 37, of Mt. Victory, was charged Friday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was issued a traffic citation for driving under suspension for an OVI conviction.
He was stopped at around 1 a.m. for improper vehicle registration. Officers detected an odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the car.
Shoffner handed over a marijuana pipe and participated in field sobriety tests.
Tests indicated he was too impaired to drive. He declined to participate in chemical testing.
• Tavia L. Wright, 38, of Lima, was charged Thursday with OVI after an 11:10 p.m. traffic stop for driving without headlights on.
An officer detected an odor of alcohol and she admitted consuming two beers and a shot of liquor.
Field sobriety tests indicated she was impaired and her breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.124.
