Ashley J. Allen, 36, of 106 N. Boggs St., DeGraff, was charged Wednesday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
At 1:40 p.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to Fountaine Plaza, 1700 S. Main St., on a report of an intoxicated motorist.
They found two witnesses standing outside a car with Allen in the driver’s seat naked from the waist up. The two men told officers they followed as Allen drove from High Point Village shopping plaza, 2129 S. Main St., striking a curb in the exit drive and nearly hitting another vehicle on Main before pulling into a turn lane for Fountaine Plaza.
While stopped at the light, the duo observed Allen vomiting on herself. When the light turned green, she pulled into the parking lot and parked. The two witnesses turned around, drove up to Allen and approached the car. One of them reached in the car, turned off the ignition and removed the key.
Allen was cursing the witnesses and the first officer on the scene and refused to put on a shirt, claiming she didn’t have one even while waving a sweatshirt and another shirt at the officer.
There was a strong odor of alcohol about the motorist and the car. She was offered multiple opportunities to don a shirt after before she removed her from the car and placed her in handcuffs. One of her shirts was used to cover her upper.
A 2/3-empty 750 ml bottle of whisky was recovered from the car.
Allen’s breathalyzer sample was recorded at 0.208 and she was released to a sober friend.
Hit-skip crash damages utility pole
Officers are investigating a hit-skip crash between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of east Lake Avenue.
Jody Salmons said she arrived at her 428 E. Lake Ave. home around midnight and learned from her mother-in-law there was a loud sound earlier in the night as she watched Salmons’ son.
Salmons found damage to a utility pole in the front yard of her residence. Officers observed splintering on the utility pole and parts from the suspect vehicle scattered about the crash site. They believe the white sedan was westbound on Lake when it left the roadway and hit the pole.
Officers believed they have identified the make and model of the car and are hoping to identify its owner and the motorist.
