A Pennsylvania man was killed in a Saturday evening crash on County Road 25 after his motorcycle drove off the road and struck a tree, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Mark R. Briner, 34, of Port Matilda, Pa., reportedly was transported by Tri-Valley squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Corey R. Hammond, 41, of Bellefontaine, was transported by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of incapacitating injuries.
Deputies report Briner was operating the northbound motorcycle on C.R. 25 just north of State Route 540 about 7:50 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road on a curve and struck a ditch and then a tree. The driver reportedly was pinned against the tree while still seated on the motorcycle, and his passenger reportedly was thrown from the motorcycle.
Neither the motorcycle operator nor his passenger were wearing a helmet. Deputies do not suspect drugs or alcohol as a factors in the crash, according to the crash report.
Damage was heavy to the motorcycle.
This is the fifth fatal crash in Logan County this year.
