A Belle Center mother attempting to retrieve her daughter who had run from the end of a driveway onto County Road 104 was struck by a vehicle around 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Rachael Richards, 34, was flown by CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Richards remains listed in critical condition as of 8:40 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at the hospital, according to hospital staff. Her three-year-old daughter was transported by vehicle to a Lima area hospital as a precaution.
Micah Burkholder, 34, of Rushsylvania, was traveling southbound in a 2021 GMC pick-up truck on C.R. 104 when it struck Richards as she was attempting to get her child off the roadway.
Deputies said the child may have been attempting to cross the road to get mail from a mailbox.
The Multi-County Crash Team is investigating the incident.
