The list of people lining up for the first of two Logan County Commissioner seats that will be up for election next year has already grown to more than a dozen names, members of the Republican Party’s Central Committee learned Wednesday evening.

Among those seeking appointment to the seat that has been vacated by Tony Core are several retired business leaders, the current leader of the chamber of commerce, former school employees, a retired judge and a former commissioner, according to a list read at the meeting. The 14 named include only one woman and two of those who have their hat in the ring for the $48,450-per-year job say they are only interested in filling in until a replacement can be elected.
“We’ve got a nice group of qualified candidates,” Central Committee chair Steve Fansler said. “We should definitely come up with a person to lead Logan County from this list. We seem to be on track to have the most candidates we’ve ever had for a vacant seat.”
