Monty Hamilton, 66, of Lima, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, surrounded by his family, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born May 22, 1950, in Kenton, to the late Ioda B. Gooch Wickliff and George D. Hamilton.
On Nov. 27, 1971, he married Arnena Mary Sebastiano, who preceded him in death April 17, 2007.
Monty was a graduate of Bliss College of Columbus, fondly called the “Mighty Briefcases.” He was a “highly trained federal agent” for the Department of Treasury in the IRS for his entire career of 38 years.
He had a lifelong love of drum and bugle corps. He met his cherished wife when they were young teens where he was in the Bellefontaine Satan’s Angels and Arnena was a Vacationland Sweetheart. Later, he started the Summer Dreams Foundation that brought drum corps shows to Lima.
He was a member of the Market Street Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, finance committee member, sang in the choir, ran the youth ministries and played in the volleyball and softball recreation leagues. He enjoyed coaching girls floor hockey and being a Girl Scouts troop leader for his daughters and a Boy Scouts den master for his grandsons. He enjoyed volunteering at the Westside Swim and Racquet Club and the Men’s Garden Club.
He is survived by four daughters/exemptions, Tina M. (Jeff) Hamilton-Shoemaker of Lima, Bethany J. Hamilton, of Powell, Christy N. (Daniel) Tennessen of Brownsburg, Ind., and Monica R. Hamilton, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Aaron J. Snider, Derek J. Snider, Brandon J. Snider, Grace A.M. Shoemaker, Spencer N. Shoemaker, Josiah B. Shoemaker, Shiloh I. Shoemaker, Canyon G. Shoemaker, Douglas R. Tennessen, Joshua M. Tennessen and Michael R. Hamilton; a sister, Rhonda (David) Fairclough of Swanton; brother, Dion (Sue) Wickliff of Zionsville, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Road, Lima. A funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Market Street Presbyterian Church, 1100 W. Market St., Lima.
