Samantha Compton, 29, of Lima, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, illegal possession of prescription pills and three counts of child endangering after a 6:50 p.m. Saturday traffic stop on U.S. Route 33 ramp to County Road 10.
Witnesses reported she was driving danger- ously while eastbound on U.S. 33. A deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office followed her from the County Road 10 interchange and observed her vehicle cross the center line several times.
Once stopped, the deputy noted there were three children in the sport utility vehicle, ages 14, 4 and eight months. It also was reported the driver’s speech was slurred and her reactions were sluggish. She was unsteady on her feet when she stepped out of the SUV.
She consented to a search of the SUV and the deputy found prescription opioid treatment drugs plus several pill bottles with drugs not matching the labels. He noted evidence of pills that were crushed for snorting.
She reportedly admitted to using heroin with fentanyl recently and that she had a pre- scription for the treatment drug.
Her 14-year-old son told the deputy his mother’s driving was scaring him and that he observed her use a plastic syringe to consume a pink liquid.
Compton took field sobriety tests which indicated she was impaired. She refused to pro- vide a urine sample for testing.
She was cited for driving under suspension and failure to drive in the marked lanes of the road.
