Bethanie Williams, 25, of 524 E. Brown Ave., Apt. 6, was charged Friday with endangering children.
Her two-year-old son was found unattended at Kaleidoscope Playground at Mary Rutan Park around 12:20 p.m. Officers asked the boy to lead them to his home, but were unsuccessful.
None of the neighboring residents knew the child nor his parents.
Officers took the child to the department offices and contacted the Logan County Children’s Services. They also post a photograph of the boy on the department’s Facebook page.
Within 20 minutes, a caller identified the boy and his parents, who are estranged.
Steven Williams left work and came to the office after friends notified him of the Facebook post. He was granted custody of the boy and his older sister who was in school.
The mother told police she had fallen asleep and was not aware her son had left the residence. Officers noted she made no effort to contact the police while they in turn sent officers to her home.
