KENTON — The Ohio State University Extension in Hardin County is offering Mental Health First Aid training in two upcoming sessions at the OSU Office Spark Lab, 1021 W. Lima St., Kenton.
A Wednesday, Aug. 9, class focuses on youth mental health, and a Tuesday, Aug. 22, class focuses on adult mental health. Both sessions are from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers and others how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders and eating disorders.
The Adult Mental Health First Aid course is appropriate for anyone 18 years and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health-related crisis or problem. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis and addictions.
Cost for each class is $35 and includes workbook, course materials, three-year certification, lunch and snacks.
