Mary S. Van Voorhis, 86, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 4:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at Green Hills Care Center in West Liberty.
She was born on March 30, 1934, a daughter of the late Sanford S. and Thelma V. (Bidwell) Castle. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Kyle Van Voorhis; three sisters; and a brother.
On Dec. 24, 1952, Mary married Owen Van Voorhis in Richmond, Indiana, and he survives. She is also survived by five children, Eric Van Voorhis, Michael Van Voorhis, Kelly (Kim Hill) VanVoorhis, Cindy (Mark) Oppy, and Debra Van Voorhis; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a great great grandson; two brothers, Dave Castle and Joe Castle; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary had worked as a clerk for Montgomery Ward and JC Penney for many years. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, Ohio.
