Mary “Jean” Rice, 94, of West Mansfield, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness.
Born March 10, 1923, in West Mansfield in the home where she lived, she was the daughter of the late N.P. and Mabel King McColloch. On Oct. 1, 1947, in Lexington, Ky., she married her husband of 43 years, James M. Rice, and he preceded her in death in 1990. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight McColloch.
A graduate of West Mansfield High School and Miami University, she was a dietitian with the Cincinnati Hospital. A member of the West Mansfield Baptist Church, she was a member of the Silver Circle of King’s Daughters. Jean enjoyed gardening, watching sports, debating politics, traveling with the senior bus tours, swimming at the Y in the exercise class, but most of all she cherished her time spent with grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (Dean) Starr of Dana Point, Calif., Carol (Jerry) Dickinson of Cameron, Mont., and Susan (Steve) Neusse of Dallas, Texas; her son, Jim (Shari) Rice of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Patrick Starr of Berkeley, Calif., Christopher Starr of San Clemente, Calif., Whitney Heike of Dallas, Texas, Chad (Laura) Dickinson of Ennis, Mont., Kelli Tevis of Bellefontaine, Alyssa Rice of Huntsville and James (Erica) Rice andand Sara Rice, both of West Mansfield; great-grandchildren, Tanner Heike, Agustus, Paige, Logan and Reese Dickinson, Tyler and Trace Tevis and Harrison Rice; and niece and nephew, Tom McColloch and Alice Millhouse.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at the West Mansfield Baptist Church, where calling is an hour prior to the service.
The Rev. Gary Staats officiates and burial will be private for the family at the Greenlawn Cemetery, West Mansfield.
