Mary Jane Martin, 92, of Bellefontaine, formerly of Covington, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, August 22, at Logan Acres of Bellefontaine. She was born on June 3, 1930 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Abe and Opal (Barlow) Shively. On August 8, 1947 she married Richard A. “Dick” Martin, who preceded her in death on December 7, 2007.
Mary is survived by nieces and nephews, Deanna (Harvey) Claypool, Bob (Connie) Farley, Lan (Mary) Farley, Fred (Deniece) Farley, Melanie (Jim) Brandt, Valerie Donahoe, Dan (Brenda) Shively, LeeAnn (Ron) Swonguer, Charlie (Rhonda) Shively, and Betty Smith. Also surviving are her brother, Ralph Shively; brother-in-law, Don Ambos; and a multitude of great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Ambos; sister-in-law, Phyllis Pohlschneider; and nephew John Shively.
Mary and her husband, Dick were very close with their family. They loved their nieces and nephews as though they were their own, and enjoyed doting on them and their great nieces and nephews. Mary was a gifted artist, she loved the outdoors and tending to her flower gardens. She was very active, even until her most recent years. Mary was a member of Trinity Church of the Brethren in Sidney. Mary and Dick lived a wonderful life, full of traveling, boat racing, tennis, and family gatherings at the cottage. After Dick passed, Mary’s greatest joy was still her family and spending time with them.
A private graveside service will be held at the family’s discretion at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
