Marion Lee Coyer, Retired Sergeant First Class, 89, of Bellefontaine passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Marion was born May 26, 1930, in Zanesfield to the late Phillip Whitwer and Mary Coyer. On May 26, 1979, in Bellefontaine he married Rita E. Benton.
Marion served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for distinguished service and served as a Drill Sergeant, training soldiers to fight in Vietnam. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Rita E.B. Coyer; son, Joseph (Veronica) Benton; granddaughter, Angelina Benton; niece, Amie (Bob) Dowdy; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine (McChard) Coyer; parents; brother, Donald Whitwer; and many loving companion cats.
A funeral service is Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at noon at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
