Margaret M. James, 88, of Kenton, went to be with her Lord at 8:08 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born in Shelby County on Dec. 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Dallas Clayton and Zella Marie Taylor Shroyer. On July 11, 1948, Margaret married Gene C. James and he survives.
Also surviving are her children, Randall Gene (Annette) James and Keith Brian James, both of Columbus, and Kerry Gordon (Jane) James and Vicki Sue (Stephen) Phillips, both of Kenton; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Huyn Joo) James, Brian (Samantha) James, Jennifer (Eric) Tompos, Kelly (Randy) Buxton, Kimberly (Kamron) Fay, Jina (Dr. Earnie) Kearns, Benjamin (Amy) Broseke, Bethany Broseke, Rebeckah (Greg) Risner and Daniel (Angie) Broseke; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Ann Shroyer of Springfield; and sisters-in-law, Sherry Edwards of Indianapolis and Mary Ann James of Kenton.
She also was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Eugene Shroyer, and his wife, Mary Ann.
She attended Belle Center, Bellefontaine and Ridgeway public schools and graduated from Ridgeway High School. Margaret attended the Marion Business School and worked at FH Bailey and Sons as a bookkeeper and at the OSU Hardin County Extension office as a secretary for 21 years, retiring in 1987.
She was an active member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and deacon and was active in the Women’s Missionary Society. She and Gene loved to travel and visited all 48 contiguous states.
Funeral begins at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Schindewolf Stout Crates Funeral Home in Kenton, where calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11. The Rev. Tomas Pistora officiates and private family burial will take place at Grove Cemetery at a later date.
