Michael E. Justin, 46, of 505 W. Columbus Ave., was charged with felonious assault Monday after he allegedly stabbed Jerry Knasel outside Mr. Knasel’s 813 Heritage Court apartment around midnight Sunday.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded and found the victim outside talking, smoking a cigarette and joking with bystanders. He had a single stab wound in the right, upper area of his chest and a stab wound to his right bicep.
Witnesses told police the suspect repeatedly drove through the complex too fast and that Mr. Knasel shouted at him to slow down. The suspect drove off, but returned 45 minutes later to park in the lot.
He began to play loud music while he sat and drank a beer.
Mr. Knasel and two other men approached the suspect who stabbed the victim through an open window of his car.
He then drove off despite efforts to stop him.
Officers spotted the suspect near the police department and stopped him in the department’s lot.
He claimed he was assaulted by two men and did not stab anyone.
Based on statements from the victim and multiple witnesses, the suspect was arrested and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Mr. Knasel was transported by a Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
