Dennis Horne, 23, of Bellefontaine, was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest following a drunken, combative encounter that occurred around 11:45 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29, with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Police were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Florence Street on a report of the suspect yelling and banging on a locked front door at the residence. The caller was the defendant’s wife who told officers that Horne becomes confrontational and out of control when he consumes alcohol.
Contact was made with Horne who was incoherent and disagreeable with police.
He refused orders to comply and was not able to answer questions. Police eventually learned that on Wednesday Horne was found to be too drunk to take care of himself as well, but he accepted a ride to another family member’s house for the night.
He refused that offer this time and police determined he would be charged with public intoxication. As officers attempted to detain him, Horne began to flail around uncontrollably. Once in the cruiser, he banged his read repeatedly off the partition and window.
At the Logan County Jail, Horne had to be placed in a restraint chair and drive-stunned in order to comply.
Intoxicated motorist charged
Abigayle Stump, 34, of Bellefontaine, was charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop initiated around 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the area of Township Road 200 and County Road 18.
Police were initially dispatched to the Lowe’s parking lot, 2168 S. U.S. Route 68, after a caller reported they suspected Stump may be driving around intoxicated. Police identified her vehicle in the parking lot and confirmed she was the driver as Stump began to drive away. Officers followed the defendant along T.R. 200 and onto C.R. 18 and initiated the stop.
Upon making contact with Stump, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was reported. She denied having consumed any alcohol, but said she had drank the night before and may still be feeling the effects of alcohol.
Field sobriety tests were not successfully completed and the defendant was detained and transported to the police department. She was administered a breath test and her blood-alcohol content registered .225.
She was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was released to a sober driver. Her vehicle was towed from the scene.
